Helen Arkell Y7 Transition Project

Designed specifically for pupils entering secondary school without adequate literacy skills to meet the demands of the secondary curriculum. Delivered by dyslexia-trained teachers, who tailored the intervention to the specific needs of each pupil. Some focused more on language skills, some on writing skills, some on reading skills, and some on spelling. Specific guidance was provided to help teachers provide speech and language support where necessary. Emphasis was placed on transfer of skills outside the 1-1 teaching situation and on improving independent learning and self-confidence.
