Tables of Doom
My son age 8 loves Nessy and enjoys most of the times tables games. He gets a bit frustrated with the reversed tables ie if you know the answer what is the question and I am hoping the repetition will help embed them and reduce his frustration.

Very good for visual learners. Bite size chunks of lessons so child not overwhelmed. Good motivators....credits to buy virtual stuff in store and competition and challenges with friends. Also a comprehensive reporting system so you can monitor child's progress as well as checking on maths age.

Nessy Learning Programme
My son age 8 used this program as part of his dyslexia tutoring and really enjoyed the games. The gold nugget system was a very good motivator to do the lessons. Every bit of repetition he can get seems to help instill the phonics in his long term memory.

Easyread System
My dyslexic son age 8 started with the Easyread System 5 months ago following a year of lessons with a dedicated dyslexia tutor. He had improved but reading was still a real struggle and very much a case of slowly learning each rule of English which was a big help, yet still there was no intuitive decoding happening and reading was not fun for him at all. It was extremely hard work. Starting the Easyread system coincided with the decision to start home-educating him and we used Easyread exclusively initially as we were navigating our way into the wonderful world of home-education. I was slightly dubious at first because the initial lessons were very simple. Yet they were also a perfect length for an 8 yr old attention span. Within 6-8 weeks something miraculous happened...my son could suddenly read intuitively and decoding became a natural process. One day I found him on the sofa deeply engrossed in the first chapter of the first Harry Potter book. He looked up and said to me excitedly, " Mum, it's like being in the film!" That was when I absolutely knew he had discovered the marvel of being able to read. He has since finished that book and is working his way through Harry Potter world. Spelling is still an issue, but as he works his way through the Easyread system I can see good progress. He has also made huge progress in Maths as he can now read and understand what is being asked of him. All in all a much more confident, happier boy.
