Arkansas Guidelines for Assessment Accommodations for Students with Disabilities

In the State of Arkansas, students with disabilities are expected to be assessed on gradelevel using the regular Benchmark Exam, End of Course Exams and Grade 11 LiteracyExam with or without accommodations. Students with a significant cognitive disabilitymay be assessed with the alternate portfolio. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004, Public Law 108-446, specifically governs services that are provided to students with disabilities.Accountability at the individual level is provided through Individualized EducationPrograms (IEPs) developed on the basis of each child’s unique needs. IDEA requires theparticipation of ALL students with disabilities in statewide assessments
